Advanced launches Smart Walk Test for AdvancedLive

We are pleased to announce the launch of Smart Walk Test, a new AdvancedLive feature designed to help both facility teams and maintenance contractors complete fire system testing more efficiently while building a clear, digital record of compliance.

Built around the requirements of BS 5839-1:2025, Smart Walk Test brings routine fire system testing into AdvancedLive, transforming what has traditionally been a manual, paper-based process into a guided digital workflow.

The result is faster testing, stronger record-keeping, improved visibility and greater confidence that testing obligations are being met.

Smart Walk Test has been developed to support two distinct testing activities.

For facility teams, it provides a simple, guided approach to the routine weekly testing required as part of a building owner’s duty of care. Through step-by-step prompts in AdvancedLive, users can test call points, sounders and outputs without requiring specialist fire engineering knowledge. Every test is automatically recorded, creating a secure digital record that complements traditional paper logbooks and helps reduce the risk of missed tests. The system can also track which call points have been tested and prompt users to rotate them in line with best practice guidance.

For maintenance contractors, Smart Walk Test streamlines the annual service visit by turning a traditional panel-and-pole testing process into a single-engineer workflow. Engineers can place zones into test mode directly from AdvancedLive, verify activations in real time and maintain a live view of testing progress as they move through the site. Every action is automatically logged, producing a complete, timestamped audit trail and service visit report without the need for extensive manual administration.

By combining guided workflows, automated reporting and comprehensive event logging, Smart Walk Test helps both user groups maintain a clear record of testing activity while supporting compliance with BS 5839-1:2025. Every device activation, zone status change and engineer action can be recorded, providing documented evidence that testing has been completed and helping organisations remain audit-ready.

For facility managers, this means greater visibility and assurance that weekly testing obligations are being completed correctly. For maintenance providers, it means faster service visits, less administration and a robust digital audit trail that helps demonstrate compliance to customers and auditors alike.

Michael Dunbar, Digital Product Manager at Advanced, said: “Routine fire system testing remains essential, but it can be time-consuming, involve a lot of administration and difficult to evidence consistently. Smart Walk Test has been designed to make testing simpler for both facility teams and maintenance contractors while providing a stronger digital record of compliance. Whether you’re completing a routine weekly test or carrying out an annual service visit, Smart Walk Test helps ensure testing is easier to manage, easier to evidence and easier to review.”

Smart Walk Test is available through AdvancedLive for compatible MxPro 5 Gen 2 systems running the latest firmware and forms part of our continued commitment to making fire system management smarter, simpler and more connected.
