A complex Advanced fire protection system has been implemented at one of Slovenia’s busiest hospitals, the Ljubljana Oncology Institute, all without interrupting vital patient services.

As Slovenia’s premier cancer treatment centre, the sprawling complex handles diagnostics, therapy, and intensive care across four interconnected buildings. It is home to over a thousand staff and serves thousands of patients and visitors daily, demanding a careful, sensitive approach to any renovation work. The project’s success relied on maintaining uninterrupted operations throughout the installation.
The team at Bildos d.o.o. took charge of designing, fitting, and integrating a full fire safety system that would unify both existing and new solutions.
The upgrade included:
- 14 Advanced MxPro 5 panels, supported by TouchControl repeater terminals
- Eight ExGo panels to manage gas‑based fire suppression
- Integration with the hospital’s BMS
- New Axis EN detectors across the facility
The system oversees a wide array of subsystems, smoke extraction and over‑pressure systems, evacuation doors, firefighter lifts, dampers, HVAC, PA/VA systems, sprinklers, CO detection, and more, placing the entire fire protection setup under a single, monitored umbrella.
The MxPro 5’s powerful processor, intuitive programming, and wide protocol compatibility proved vital in coordinating complex cause-and-effect logic across multiple buildings and system types. ExGo’s reliable flood-area suppression capability added another layer of resilience.
Damjan Birk of Bildos d.o.o. said: “Integral to this project was uninterrupted patient care. Advanced’s equipment and responsive technical support allowed for seamless transition to the new system while maintaining full hospital functionality.”
Vladimir Zrnić, Global Portfolio Manager at Advanced, added: “This installation is one of the most technically demanding we’ve supported. Coordinating multiple fire and smoke systems, integrated across lighting, HVAC, lifts, control rooms, and suppression, while the hospital remained operational, demonstrates both Advanced’s flexibility and the remarkable execution by Bildos.”
The upgraded system has received formal certification, marking a milestone in active fire safety for a hospital environment. Expansion plans are already in motion, ensuring that this state-of-the-art solution will continue protecting patients, staff, and visitors well into the future.
