Burhouse Ltd’s recently modernised mill in Huddersfield is now protected by Advanced’s Go fire panel, delivering reliable and intuitive fire safety across a two-floor commercial space.
The installation, undertaken by IMG Fire & Security Ltd, marks the completion of phase one of a wider redevelopment project, transforming a 100-year-old mill into a modern business centre in one of the town’s prime locations.
The site, located at Unit 1 Quarmby Mills in Huddersfield, comprises two floors over a large footprint. The ground floor was completed in 2024, followed by the first floor in 2025, when the fire alarm system was installed and commissioned.
Advanced’s Go panel was selected for its simplicity, reliability and cost-effectiveness, making it an ideal choice for small to medium-sized projects. Over the past 12 months, the system has performed flawlessly, with no issues reported. The client particularly appreciated the ease of use, especially during weekly testing routines. Phil Holmes from IMG Fire & Security was responsible for the full design and project management from first fix to commissioning. He designed the system and zone plan to ensure all devices were zoned with specific location text, supporting clear identification and rapid response.
The installation covers the entire building, including common areas such as stairwells, corridors and plant rooms. A single standalone Go panel was configured to operate as a one-out-all-out system. The system also integrates with a Videx door access system, Duelcom, and is linked to the building’s BMS for enhanced control and monitoring.
Commenting on the installation, Phil Holmes at IMG said: “For us, Advanced is the best and first option for addressable systems. We’ve worked with Advanced panels for over 20 years, and the new Go panel is perfect for small to medium projects. It helps reduce job costs and the new Go software is incredibly easy to use during commissioning and for future works.”
Neil Parkin, Sales Manager – UK North, Northern Ireland and ROI at Advanced, added: “The Go panel is designed to bring the power and flexibility of our flagship MxPro 5 range to smaller sites. It’s fast to fit, quick to configure and easy to use, without compromising on safety. We’re proud to see it performing so well for Burhouse Ltd and supporting the transformation of this historic site.”
With phase one now complete, plans are underway for phase two, which will see the modernisation of the remaining mill complex. The next stage will convert the rest of the site into a new business centre, further enhancing the area’s commercial offering. The fire alarm system for phase two is currently being designed and will be submitted to building control and fire risk assessors to ensure full compliance and stakeholder satisfaction.
The Burhouse Ltd project highlights the value of Advanced’s Go panel in delivering dependable, user-friendly fire protection for heritage buildings undergoing modernisation. It stands as a strong example of how thoughtful design, proven technology and experienced installation can come together to meet the evolving safety needs of commercial spaces.
