Hilton Hotel, North Danvers (MA), United States

The Hilton Boston North Danvers hotel in Massachusetts has modernised its fire protection infrastructure with the installation of Advanced’s Axis AX fire alarm and voice evacuation system.

The upgrade delivers enhanced safety across the site while maintaining seamless day-to-day operations for guests and staff. Serving a large hospitality environment made up of extended building wings and multiple floors, the project required a solution capable of delivering consistent performance across a complex layout. Working in partnership with Harding, Hayden Systems replaced an existing Notifier system with a high-performance, code-compliant alternative that could be deployed efficiently within an operational hotel.

Christopher Whitmarsh, S.E.T. at Hayden Systems, commented: “Working in a busy hotel environment brings unique challenges, particularly when it comes to maintaining safety while minimising disruption to guests and operations. Axis AX gave us the flexibility to upgrade the system efficiently, while making use of the existing infrastructure and ensuring the building meets current code requirements.”

A network of addressable fire panels and voice amplifiers was installed to support both notification and communication across the building, with 25-volt speaker circuits and 24-volt NAC strobe circuits distributed throughout the hotel’s two main wings. Advanced data gathering panels (DGPs) were used to bring together amplifiers and power supplies into centralised locations, enabling efficient coverage across multiple areas while simplifying installation and future maintenance.

A key requirement of the project was to retain much of the existing system infrastructure. Axis AX’s robust digital communication protocol enabled the reuse of existing cabling and field devices as part of the signalling line circuits, reducing the need for extensive rewiring while maintaining reliable system performance. This approach not only helped control project costs but also significantly reduced installation time in a live hospitality setting.

Sarah Lawson, Operations Director at Advanced added: “Hospitality environments demand reliable, easy-to-manage fire systems that can operate across large, multi-zone layouts. Axis AX’s scalability and powerful networking capabilities make it ideally suited to these applications, providing building operators with a system that is both flexible today and ready for future expansion.”

Mike Madden, VP of US Sales at Harding, commented: “This project highlights how effective collaboration and the right technology can deliver a smooth upgrade in a complex environment. Axis AX provides the flexibility needed for retrofit projects, allowing building owners to modernise their fire systems while maintaining existing infrastructure and minimising disruption.”

With the new Axis AX system now in place, Hilton Boston North Danvers benefits from a dependable, high-performance fire detection and voice evacuation solution, ensuring continued protection for guests, staff and property while providing a scalable platform to support the building’s long-term operational needs.
