An 18-story residential high-rise at 1550 Beacon St in Brookline, Massachusetts, has recently undergone a major fire safety upgrade with the installation of Advanced’s Axis AX fire alarm system.
The project was led by Hayden Systems, Inc., in partnership with Harding, and was designed to replace an obsolete five-node Silent Knight system, ensuring comprehensive protection for residents and property.
The installation covered all common areas, apartments, and sectional sprinkler devices throughout the building. The team deployed four Axis AX panels, leveraging the existing voice panel (Command Center2) that had previously been installed at the head end to control the voice portion of the system. The project was completed efficiently, with the team able to install the required additional nodes and replace all initiating devices in just ten days, averaging two floors per day.
Christopher Whitmarsh, S.E.T. at Hayden Systems, commented: “This was a significant upgrade for a busy high-rise. Axis AX’s modular design and intuitive programming made it possible to complete the installation quickly and with minimal disruption to residents. We were able to cover all common area smokes, apartment heats, pull stations, and sectional sprinkler devices, ensuring the building is protected to the highest standards.”
The Axis AX system’s flexibility and powerful networking capabilities were key to overcoming the logistical challenges of working in a multi-story residential environment. Its UL 864 10th Edition approval, comprehensive configuration options, and support for intelligent annunciators and BMS integration ensured seamless control and monitoring from a central command centre.
Sarah Lawson, Operations Director at Advanced added: “The Axis AX installation at 1550 Beacon St is a great example of how our technology can deliver scalable, reliable fire protection for complex, high-rise buildings. The system’s ease of installation and advanced networking features allowed the team to meet tight deadlines while ensuring full compliance and peace of mind for residents and building management.”
Mike Madden, VP of US Sales at Harding also commented: “We’re proud to support this project and see Axis AX in action at such a prominent Brookline address. The collaboration between Hayden Systems, Advanced, and Harding demonstrates how industry-leading products and expertise can come together to deliver outstanding results for building owners and occupants.”
With the Axis AX system now in place, 1550 Beacon St is equipped with high-performance fire detection and control technology, ensuring safety remains a top priority for all who live and work in the building. The project stands as a testament to Advanced’s commitment to providing robust, scalable fire protection solutions for residential high-rises and beyond.
